Max from Bahrain: 'Confident about the new parts'

Published on 26 November 2020 by Mike Motilall

“I am happy to be here in Bahrain, with this nice weather”, as Max Verstappen kicks off proceedings from Sakhir, where back-to-back races will be driven during consecutive weekends. The Dutch Aston Martin Red Bull Racing-driver has a score to settle regarding the poor result he achieved in Istanbul two weeks ago. “Sometimes you have those weekends or even Sundays when things just don’t work out well. It’s a shame, because I was really looking forward to the Turkish Grand Prix. But we have had a lot of good moments this year though, so that can sometimes happen. Hopefully things will go smooth here in Bahrain.”

Max is looking at it positively: “I do believe in it. We have tested some new parts and it certainly felt positive. But, looking at the past, we as Red Bull have never really had a chance to win here. You do hope for it though, but we’ll see.”

In the world championship standings Max Verstappen is now third. Those standings by the way, have already been decided in Turkey, in favour of Lewis Hamilton for the seventh time in a row now. Max trails Valtteri Bottas by 27 points now. But the final score is not important to Max: “Second or third, it doesn’t make any difference to me. I find it more important that we finish the season with three positive races.”
